Be greeted by Christmas Carols whilst you enjoy a mince pie, mulled wine (0%) or hot chocolate, sitting in the very comfortable seats from the Odeon Cinema. The afternoon includes a Victorian Christmas slide show followed by the Victorian Christmas Talk by Susan Douglass.

Susan’s talk will once again fascinate you with the outcomes of her research. She discovered how three different families celebrated Christmas in 1860, 1865 and 1880. Their stories will make you laugh, cry and possibly shock you .

The Victorians transformed the idea of Christmas so that it became centred around the family. For wealthy families the preparation and eating of the feast, decorations and gift giving, entertainments and parlour games – all were essential. Hear about real people who lived or worked in Winckley Square – the wealthy solicitor who was torn between his mistress and family on Christmas Eve; how the servants of a benevolent wealthy widow were treated and a wealthy town solicitor had an unfortunate accident on his way to celebrate Christmas with the Horrocks family in Ribblesdale Place.
